Louisiana has announced a ban on prop bets involving college players, effective from August 1. The order, as reported by ESPN, clarifies that operators may honor any outstanding prop bets. Despite the challenges in identifying players included in this notification, operators are expected to make every effort to comply with the new rule.
The Louisiana Gaming Control Board (LGCB) Chairman, Ronnie Johns, stated that the board began working on the order weeks ago, well ahead of the NCAA’s call for action on college proposition bets. “It is the intention of the Louisiana Gaming Control Board to protect the integrity of sports betting as well as the safety and integrity of college athletes,” Johns said. “We feel that this order accomplishes that goal.”
This development comes just months after the announcement of ESPN BET, a newly-branded online sportsbook operated by PENN Entertainment. ESPN BET combines ESPN’s industry-leading brand and multiplatform reach with PENN Entertainment’s proprietary in-house technology and deep sportsbook operational expertise.
